More on job training/matching programs
« on: February 15, 2012, 01:49:25 AM »
http://www.politifact.com/ohio/statements/2012/jan/27/john-kasich/john-kasich-says-ohio-has-77-job-training-programs/

"Employers say Ohio has too few skilled workers, which in turn makes companies leery about moving their business here from outside the state."

"while Ohio has a wealth of workforce training programs, Kasich doesn’t think much of the state’s efforts or efficiency in linking participants in these programs to actual jobs."

So ask yourself: would you rather support a government program to help produce and match appropriately skilled workers, or would you rather leave things as they are and let the skilled (and high paying) jobs go elsewhere?

There are plenty of government programs that are supposed to do just that already, they just don't do a very good job of it.

Best bet is to take matters into your own hands rather than expecting a bureaucracy to run your life for you.

Haven't we heard this several times already?  Thanks for the constant reminder!

I just can't understand why so many people believe that the government is smarter than they are.

http://blog.npaworldwide.com/blog/bid/73242/Talent-Shortage-or-Training-Shortage

"Employers seem willing to have jobs sit open for months as they seek the “perfect fit candidate” rather than a close fit option"

"the only way to build talent is to invest in talent"

"employers need to work with universities and colleges to teach what they value and require. Seems like a simple concept, but far too many grads exit universities with few employer-desired experiences."

What screws us up most in life is the picture in our head of how it’s supposed to be.
